I'm wondering how to use Arudino libraries for projects using regular microprocessors, in my case, the ATMegap. I also don't want to be use the setup and loop Arduino programming environment, but I do want to be able to download and use the EtherCard library, which includes Arduino.
I'm using Atmel Studio 6. I've found this post Using the Arduino libraries for regular AVR code which includes an excellent response, but it's specific i think to the linux environment. Has anyone used Arudino libraries for a non-arduino project? If so, how do I properly include them in Atmel Studio?
There are two sets of libraries in Arduino tree. From my point of view Arduino IDE is wrong idea because it does not use normal make file but it's somehow hardcoded it in java using only external avr-gcc.
Also "to-be-implemented" loopsetup seems like obscure idea introduced by Arduino's main.
I recommend more fresh gcc 4. I have own Makefile and using in Windows XP. You can override also some Arduino functions implemented using attribute weak.

When you soldier them, you must be very careful of not conducting the heat to the processor which can affect them. The plastic touching indicates a possible shorting occurring.

Its hard to understand what you're explaining, but you might have bricked the chip, applied too much heat when you soldered the chip on, or the chip is just broken, possibly due to Electro-static discharge ESD. Just get a new chip, solder it on at around - degrees Fahrenheit, and you should be all set! Be sure to be properly grounded to avoid shocking the chip. Glad to help. It sounds like a couple of things; probably a floating reset pin that would explain why a finger near it makes a difference and also probably the config reg fuse values have an incorrect prescaler value that would explain the incorrect speed of your blinking program.
Frankly it sounds a good explanation. I can post a p based schematics I have done for some projects in past, that always worked, if needed. Bob, sorry for the delay. The following is one of the custom boards based on the ATmega p Arduino compatible. I have been doing this recently and have had an issue with a dead crystal after a short. The chip didn't work at all in my board but was fine in the original arduino.
I'm waiting for some replacements at the moment. Check your crystal with a spare if possible. Also, little things but did you remember the 22pf caps from the crystal to ground and the 10uf filter cap? The is not enough on its own, you will need a uF and a 0. The reset line needs more than just a 10K pull up, it also needs a nF to ground to form an RC circuit. A breadboard is a great way to prototype solutions but when the system is running at 16Mhz these stray capacitances and Inductance starts to have an affect.
I am not saing that the capacitor is absolutly necessary but as mcb1 says, it can provide de-bouncing of a reset switch and in addition it also provides for an additional delay while the power supplies stabilize etc.
My main point here is that, just because something works Or does not work on a bread board does not mean the same will be true for when it is transfered to a PCB.
One other small thing to check, is the chip in the socket the correct way round? I will admit to making this mistake once, and whilst the chip survived, the circuit obviously did not work. I think we need some good quality images of the board top and bottom along with your schematic, as the crystal ball is a little foggy.
I fixed the problem with my circuit. The crystal was fine, but the was a break in the found going to the 22pf capacitors, rendering the crystal circuitry non-functional. Try checking that both crystals are properly connected to ground and that no traces have been damaged.
Did you get a solution? After reading all the comments i think all the possibilities are covered, one thing that once i face was that i connected the crystal too far from the chip and my controller dint worked well. Hope u dont have done this too. Also sometimes dry soldering is the culprit. I had this problem at times by viewing it might seem that the connection is perfect but actually sometimes when the temperature of solder is not correctly set the connection is just not good enough.
