Not a fan of smoothies? Try a smashed banana, smeared with nut butter. Or go for soft scrambled eggs, adding some ricotta or cheddar cheese for more flavor. Cooked cereals, including oatmeal and cream of wheat, are also good breakfast choices. Try stirring in a dollop of pureed fruit, a few spices or some peanut butter for variety. However, please call your surgeon if there is excessive or active bleeding, or if you have any concerns. The swelling is perhaps the greatest post-operative event of your jaw surgery, and vary from patient to patient. You must anticipate a large degree of swelling over your cheek area as well as down into your neck.
The swelling is maximal at Day 4 and will slowly subside after 2 weeks. You will have been given medications during the surgery and immediately after to help settle down some of the swelling, but once it has occurred on Day 3, there is very little that can be done to eliminate it.

Your surgeon cuts the bone above your teeth so that the entire top jaw — including the roof of your mouth and your upper teeth — can move as one unit. The jaw and upper teeth are moved forward until they fit properly with the lower teeth. This can be planned on a computer to determine if additional work, such as orthodontics, will be needed to help correct any remaining fit difference.
